When Hurricane katrina hit New Orleans on Monday August 29th, just that occurred. The city was almost completely under water. Water rose multiple stories, drowning hundreds of people in it’s wake.

The veteran CBS News correspondent died Saturday. He was 62.
Harold Dow leaves behind a wife, Kathy, and three children, Danica, Joelle, and David.

Harold Dow career at CBS spanned almost 40 years. A five-time Emmy winner and 48 Hours correspondent since the program's inception, Harold Dow covered everything from the kidnapping of Patty Hearst to American involvement in Bosnia

The five-time Emmy Award winner was best known for his work on 48 Hours, to which he contributed since the program's launch in January 1988. He was also a contributor to the critically acclaimed 1986 documentary, 48 Hours on Crack Street, which led to the creation of the weekly news magazine.

"CBS News is deeply saddened by this sudden loss," CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus said in a statement. "The CBS News family has lost one of its oldest and most talented members, whose absence will be felt by many and whose on-air presence and reporting skills touched nearly all of our broadcasts. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Kathy and their children Joelle, Danica and David."

Dow covered many of the most important stories of his time, including 9/11, where he barely escaped one of the falling Twin Towers. He also covered the return of prisoners of war from Vietnam, the movement of American troops into Bosnia, the Pan Am Flight 103 disaster, and the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst, who he interviewed exclusively in 1976. He also conducted the first network TV interview with O. J. Simpson after the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

In addition to his five Emmys, Dow was honored with a Peabody Award for his 48 Hours report on runaways and a Robert F. Kennedy Award for a report on public housing. He was also recently recognized by the National Association of Black Journalists for his report about civil rights activist Medgar Evers, which was featured in a CBS News special about the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Prior to beginning his work for CBS News in 1972, Harold Dow was an anchor at Theta Cable TV in Santa Monica, Calif. He was also the first African American television reporter in Omaha, Neb., where he served as co-anchor and talk-show host for KETV Omaha.

Harold Dow's cause of death was not immediately released.

(Whitman did not vote for long stretches of her career. She was registered to vote in the 1980s, contrary to a report saying she did not register until 2002.)

She also posted on Twitter, "Who hijacked term:"feminist"?A cackle of rads who want 2 crucify other women w/whom they disagree on a singular issue; it's ironic (& passé)." The tweet is mostly likely a reference to either this campaign against her by the women's group EMILY's list or this New York Times discussion. Technology News : US news college rankings Harvard pulled ahead of Ivy League rival Princeton in the latest edition of the influential US News & World Report university rankings, while a stronger emphasis on graduation rates drove other changes in the Top 10.

The most closely watched of a growing number of college rankings, the US News & World Report list is both credited for helping students and families sort through a dizzying college selection process and criticized by those who say it's too arbitrary and pressures colleges to boost scores at the expense of improving teaching.

A change in how rankings are determined led to some shifts in the magazine's "Best Colleges" rankings, which were released online Tuesday and examine more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools based on 16 factors.

How did Harvard edge Princeton by 1 point on an 100-point scale? Robert Morse, director of data research for U.S. News & World Report, credited Harvard's higher scores on graduation rates, and financial and faculty resources.

The rankings take into account factors such as SAT scores, selectivity, graduation and retention rates, alumni giving and peer reputation. This year, high-school guidance counselors' opinions were added to the mix.

Most notably, graduation rate performance was given greater weight, accounting for 7.5 percent of the final score for national universities and liberal arts colleges, up from 5 percent last year. The variable is the difference between a school's actual graduation rate and one predicted by U.S. News based on test scores and schools' resources.

The University of California, Berkeley is the highest-ranked public university, at No. 22 overall in the US News report. Despite a severe budget crisis, five schools in the UC system were among the top 10 public universities.

So a degree of familiarity with the property is going to be taken as read, lest I spunk the whole of my 600 words on an Everest of clunky exposition, like some record reviewing Reed Richards.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Scott Pilgrim soundtrack has been subject of a titanic tug of love between the myriad online movie news outlets, with each one eager to exude the most slobber over every willy-teasing clip/trailer/picture, and each determined to let off the largest hyperbole artillery to demonstrate that no, they’re most excited about Wright’s movie – to the point where you half-expect poor little Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to spin round, tears in its big round eyes, and wail, “Collider! Slash Film! Ain’t It Cool! I love you all, but can’t you see you’re tearing me apart?” And it’s not only the internet news hunter-gatherers eager to grab a piece of the action, Wright has had a host of big name musos at his beck and call for the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack album; the most notable of these being er, Beck.

The Church of Scientology’s funkiest disciple (sorry JT) breathes life into Sex Bob-omb, the most prominent of the fictional bands featured in the Pilgrim-verse, he having supposedly penned more than 20 new songs for that power trio. Unsurprisingly, not all of those tracks get an airing here, though the ones that do are none too shabby at all. If there can any complaint, it’s that Sex Bob-omb, who are meant to suck like a pan-dimensional wormhole, come over as just, well, too good. On the other hand, writing as a soundtrack reviewer who seems to have spent much of this year dealing with alleged comedy cuts that you can barely make it to even the end of the first listen (an old woman squawking She Drives Me Crazy on The Back-up Plan tie-in album sticks horribly in the memory), the fact that the likes of We Are Sex Bob-omb and Summertime stand up to repeat plays is no bad thing at all.

Technology news, But if the original material is refreshingly decent, then some of the older songs which have been called into action miss the mark. While the Plumtree track that provided Scott Pilgrim with his name is really rather ace, all ’90s chugging guitars and sweet, sweet harmonies, and Frank Black and the cosmic country of Beachwood Sparks are both neat enough, Teenage Dream by T. Rex and Under My Thumb by the Stones both feel like lazy picks, scarcely requiring of yet another airing. And the Bluetones and Blood Red Shoes may well be hugely grateful for the royalties boost, but the tunes from each are strictly B-list.

You know, where Napoleon Dynamite comes from – or more recently where Alicia Keyes got married (wow, never thought I’d put these two characters in the same sentence). It may be void of both Starbucks and McDonalds – but definitely not startups.

So essentially I’ve been on a quest to expose the tech/startup activity in Corsica for a while now and oddly enough, the opportunity came at a time that is usually less active for French companies. “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” opened this week. The film lives up to its promotional efforts (they called it ‘epic’) and shows the true potential of lighthearted comic book movies. While “Pilgrim” shares many successful stylistic advances and achievements with predecessor “Kick-Ass,” it pulled off the comic-to-movie transition with more style.

I might have enjoyed “Kick-Ass” more had it been advertised differently. In the movie trailer seen on the film’s website, superhero Kick-Ass has a very altruistic motive—inspired by comic books, he wishes to help people by fighting crime. While the trailer highlights some of the crucial action scenes in the movie, it also includes a fair amount of humor and good-natured fun. That said, the film turned out to be much darker in nature than initially advertised. I felt duped by the trailer and because of it, the movie did not live up to my expectations. Napoleon Dynamite .
