Hurricane katrina

Technology News Today : Hurricane katrina ,Five Years ago this coming weak, the costliest Hurricane in American History struck South Florida, and than nearly destroyed New Orleans. Hurricane katrina formed on August 23rd 2005, and dissipated on August 30th 2005. Hurricane katrina will forever be remembered as one of the most devastating Hurricanes in recent history. Over 1,800 lives were lost, making it the deadliest storm to strike the US since the infamous 1928 Okeechobee hurricane.

Hurricane katrina, all was said an done, $81 billion in damage was recorded from the storm across much of the Gulf Coast as well as the Bahamas, This figure was almost three times as much as Hurricane Andrew caused back in 1992. For years prior to the storm meteorologists, as well as engineers, warned that New Orleans was at great risk should a major hurricane strike the area. Because of the fact that the actual city was well below sea level, any breach of their levies would cause near catastrophic damage. When Hurricane katrina hit New Orleans on Monday August 29th, just that occurred. The city was almost completely under water. Water rose multiple stories, drowning hundreds of people in it’s wake.

As we approach the 5 year anniversary it is important to understand how dangerous mother nature can really be. Hopefully the country is more prepared should another storm of Hurricane katrina’s caliber strike a major city sometime in the near future, god forbid.
