What Is Web Security Scanner?
Nowadays there are literally thousands of threats to our computers. Many of us already have the likes of internet security or virus protection, but in some cases, this is not enough. A lot of applications and websites have viruses or bugs that can break down the barriers of these protective pieces of software. What computer users need to do, is try and avoid any website that may have these threats present that could lead to damaging their computer, or infecting it in the long term.
There are many web security scanners around that can provide computer users with instant access to data relating to a particular website. These services are generally provided to the general public, but are expensive as they have been developed by professionals.
As mentioned previously, a lot of the bugs and viruses that are present today are new. New viruses pop up every single day and some times, software installed beforehand, might not pick up on these threats. These threats are generally known as zero day bugs and threats and can damage a computer instantly.
So what does a web security scanner really do? Well, it prevents a threat being present rather than trying to cure a computer of an infection. Whilst a lot of internet security products will try to destroy a threat after it has inhabited a computer, the website security scanner will determine whether a website is safe. This allows computer users to steer clear of websites that might infect their computer.
One thing to take into account is that this is not a simple process. Years of development has led to these developers creating website security scanners that actually work. Even though the development has been completed, the software has to work overtime to ensure that threats are kept at bay.
So what does all this mean? This means that consumers can not expect the website security scanner to act instantly. It will start an extremely detailed scanning process that can take between 10 minutes and up to 30 minutes in some cases. Of course, the time scale depends on the type of website and indeed, exactly how big it is.
There are a few other factors that may slow a website security scanner down. As they are also hosted on websites, they can run slow sometimes. If the security scanner is being used by lots of other users, then the likely hood is that the server will be overloaded and they will experience an extremely slow service. Even if this is the case, the website security scans are always worth a computers user's time.
The reality is that some people are extremely impatient. Even a process as simple, yet important as scanner a website to check the quality and threats that are present can be too much for some people. A lot of people go ahead and stop the scan when they realize it is not an instant process.
Once a scan is set to start, the user can still stop a scan. They can quickly stop the scan, although everything the scanner has worked towards will have been lost. It is certainly not wise to stop a scan when it is part way through, as it may have already picked up on some serious threats!
Overall, a website security scanner offers computer users peace of mind. It allows them to assess a website for security and check whether they will be putting viruses on other people's computers without knowing it. Of course, doing this would cause them to lose a lot of creditability and of course - traffic!
